Spectrum: Autism Research News

THIS ARTICLE IS MORE THAN FIVE YEARS OLD

This article is more than five years old. Autism research — and science in general — is constantly evolving, so older articles may contain information or theories that have been reevaluated since their original publication date.

Welcome to the Simons Foundation’s new blog.

I’m Apoorva Mandavilli, executive editor for the Simons Foundation. For the past few months, we’ve been working on developing a new website that informs, engages and inspires scientists who work on a few key areas of mathematics and science, the most prominent of which is autism.

I’ll write most of the blog entries, but the blog is just one element of our new website, which debuts this morning. There will also be news articles about advances in autism research and math, profiles of scientists who are engaged in the research, commentaries written by scientists and a look back at some of the most seminal papers in those fields.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, SFARI refers to the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative, which is the sum of the foundation’s activities in the realm of autism, and this blog will focus on what’s being done to unravel the many mysteries of autism so… well, you get the picture.

In time, we hope, this website will become a valuable resource both for scientists who are already working on problems relating to autism, and for those who are considering switching their expertise to this field. You’ll notice that there is the option to comment on every article and blog entry. I hope you’ll take the opportunity to register and lend us the wisdom of your perspective by engaging in productive discussions with your colleagues. The more you use the site, the more useful it will become.
